Description and Significance

Leviviridae is a (+)sense single-stranded RNA virus. It is a bacteriophage and MS2 and QB infect E. coli.

Genome Structure

The genome of leviviridae is not segmented and contains a single molecule of linear positive-sense, single-stranded RNA. The complete genome is 3466-4276 nucleotides long. The genome has a base ration of 50 % guanine, 50 % adenine. (source: ICTV dB Descriptions)

Virion Structure of a Leviviridae

The bacteriophages consist of a capsid and are not enveloped. The virions are not tailed. The capsid is round and exhibits icosahedral symmetry (T=3). The isometric capsid has a diameter of about 26 nm. The capsids appear round and each capsid consists of 32 capsomers. (source: ICTV dB Descriptions)
