Talk:Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus

From MicrobeWiki, the student-edited microbiology resource

The page is good overall. Maybe talking more about what is bad about Enterococcus entering the wrong parts of our bodies or what exactly is its mechanism would be useful. I would also go into more explanation about teicoplanin. How does it relate to vancomycin? You could also talk more about specific studies and findings.

I think it would be good to add more background on why vancomycin resistance is such a problem. Is it usually the main treatment for Enterococcus infections? Are these strains of Enterococcus also resistant to other drugs that may be used to treat the infection? You mention that the plasmid is transferred relatively easily. I would be interested in reading of specific studies that show how the plasmid is transferred or which other bacterial species it has been transferred to. --Tyler Stearns
